BASTIA AIRPORT (BIA) INFORMATION

Bastia Poretta Airport is a public airport located on the northeast coast of the French island of Corsica. The French name of the airport is Aéroport de Bastia Poretta. Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.

The airport is located 22 km/13.6 mi south of the town of Bastia in the town of Lucciana.

Bastia Airport was used by the United States Army Air Forces Twelfth Air Force in 1944 during World War II. It was from this airport that the legendary French pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry took off on July 31st, 1944, after which he disappeared on a reconnaissance flight over France. He flew a Lockhead P-38 Lightning.

Most flights to the island are seasonal and only Air Corsica and Air France fly all year round from various locations in France. Shuttle Buses – An airport shuttle bus service is provided between the train station, Terminus Bastia, in central Bastia and the airport. The timetable varies depending on the scheduled flight times. The journey time is 25 minutes when there is light traffic conditions, longer when the traffic conditions are heavy, and the fare for a single journey is 9€.
